Stéphane Dion’s problem is not a lack of intelligence or knowledge. His problem is lack of courage and leadership. With this throne’s speech, he had an occasion to put his conviction in front of his party’s and his personal interest. He could have said that this is not in the interest of Canada and to fight it no matter what the polls say. Instead, he chose to listen to his worried advisers and opted to abstain from voting. His few chances to become Canada’s next Prime Minister are now almost completely gone.
